Icelandic catches up 30% in April driven by blue whiting
Icelandic catches for April totaled 146.700t and where up by 30% compared with April last year. More than half of the catches in April are blue Whiting or just under 94.000t which is 33% more than in April last year.
The Blue Whiting season is ending. Norway and Iceland combined caught nearly half of the allowed quota of 1.39 million tons, Norway with 419.000t and Iceland with 185.750t at middle of May.
In a recent article in Undercurrent News the pelagic sales body Sildelaget in Norway said that the Blue Whiting season had been… "very good" and "hectic" since the start in January… "based on a good global market for [fish]meal and oil, the prices have been fairly high".
At the end of the season prices for Blue Whiting where on average 2,15 NOK compared with 1,47 NOK last year.
