Export distribution for the Nordic neighbours in 2017
The preliminary export figures from Iceland and Norway for 2017 are in and we now can compare the distribution of exports on a monthly basis and see the changes compared to previous years.
When comparing the total exports of Atlantic cod products measured in live weight and the total value for both countries in 2017 compared to 2016 we can see impact of the strike in Iceland and a slowly changing export pattern for Norway.
Exports from Iceland of Atlantic cod products, measured in live weight, have decreased by 11.4% compared to the year 2016 and the value has decreased by 3.7%, which means an increase of average price per live weight kilogram of 4%. In Norway the exports measured in live weight are relatively the same in 2017 compared to 2016 but the total value is significantly higher (almost 5% increase in average price per live weight kilogram).
In the two figures below we can see the monthly distributions of exports of Atlantic cod measured in live weight for both Iceland and Norway. The strike had a big impact in the first two months of 2017 and resulted in a big decrease in volume. The export pattern for the rest of the year was similar to previous periods.
The export distribution pattern in Norway is similar to recent years. Although, it appears that the quantity of Atlantic cod live weight is distributed more evenly over the year.. The difference in the volume between the first quarter of 2017 versus other quarters has decreased which gives us some indications that the Norwegians are trying to distribute their Atlantic cod catches more evenly over the year.
